Swindon claimed a vital three points to pull themselves away from the relegation zone with a 2-1 win in an entertaining clash with high-flying Sheffield Wednesday.
Jon-Paul McGovern scored the winner for Danny Wilson`s men in the only game in League One to survive the big freeze.
Swindon took the lead in the 24th minute in stunning fashion. Good work from McGovern down the right-hand side found Charlie Austin unmarked in the box. The red-hot Robins striker let fly with a sweetly struck volley that found the top right-hand corner of the net - his 13th goal of the season.
Wednesday equalised five minutes later in controversial circumstances. Lewis Buxton ran into the penalty area and looked to have rounded Robins goalkeeper Phil Smith from six yards out to score.
Smith then brought down Buxton for a certain penalty and red card but the referee waved play on and Clinton Morrison was there to tap into an empty net from a yard out. Smith was given a booking for the foul on Buxton and would have to be replaced in goal by former Wednesday keeper David Lucas before half-time due to injury.
Mark Beevers looked to have given the visitors the lead before half-time but his strike was ruled as with Clinton Morrison judged to be in an offside position apparantly interfering with play.
Swindon`s winner came from a long throw by Michael Rose which was flicked on by the towering Sean Morrison in the box and McGovern was on hand to guide it home past Nicky Weaver`s outstretched hand.
The Owls went close to grabbing an equaliser when defender Tommy Spurr crashed a long range effort against the bar and substitute Paul Heffernan was denied by a smart save from Lucas. The win sees Swindon climb to 14th position in League One, denying Wednesday the chance to move into the top two.
