Narrow home win for youth side
Sheffield Wednesday's under 18's progressed to the national final on Saturday morning thanks to a 1-0 win against Ipswich Town at Hillsborough.
Having finished top of the Northern section of the Professional Development Under 18 League last weekend with the top two in the division moving on to meet their southern league counterparts in the play-offs. Top place earned Wednesday home advantage against Ipswich, who finished second in the south, and the match took place on Saturday lunchtime. As expected there wasn't much to separate the two teams with the defining moment coming in the first half, just after the half-hour. Josh Dawodu was bundled to the ground inside the penalty area and Conor Grant stepped up to take the resulting spot-kick, nonchalantly chipping the ball into the middle of the goal as the keeper dived to the right.
The victory see the Owls progress to the final where they will meet Cardiff City as the Welsh team saw off Leeds United 2-1 in their semi-final. Wednesday's youngsters enjoyed a hard-fought 1-0 at Cardiff when the two teams faced each other last month. The final will take place at Hillsborough on Friday 3rd May.
