Sheffield Wednesday youngster Jarrod Kyle has been awarded the League Football Education Goal of the Season for 2011-12.
The winning goal came in the Under 18’s Sheffield derby against United at Middlewood Road in April when the Owls secured an impressive 3-0 victory over their local rivals. Team mate Tom Rowbotham was also among the contenders for the award and his goal against Middlesbrough in March was judged to be the 3rd best in terms of votes received.
The award was voted for by members of the public online and despite a petty and childish attempt to sabotage the poll by members of a Sheffield United fans forum Kyle ran out a clear winner with almost 50% of the votes. Blades fans attempted to use tactical voting by plumping for a Southend goal in numbers but as has been the case for them this season they came up short as Jack Payne’s goal finished as runner up.
