The defender, currently spending the summer trying to get fit after a shocking groin injury, believes Wednesday to battle towards the top end of the table rather than the bottom.
He told the Sheffield Star: "I don't think we'll need to worry about relegation next season. I think we've established ourselves now. Hopefully we'll sign a few more players and strengthen.
"I think we should be looking at mid-table and maybe above. If we can have a good start, who knows from there? Maybe we can do really well."
Wood though may find it difficult to get into the team following the signing of Algerian international Madjid Bougherra but the youngster welcomes the competition.
