The defender has been outstanding since his return against Leeds last month and has looked like he has never been away.
But the seriousness of Wood's injury cannot be underestimated - it was no ordinary lay-off as the 21-year-old broke down four times on the road to recovery.
He told Footymad: "It's great to be back personally, just a shame that the season is nearly over now, I want it to start straight away but don't worry, I will be ready for next season and hopefully I get a full season under my belt.
"I tore my right groin in February (last year), I tried to make it settle down but the problem just kept coming back again. I had an operation and it cut away from the bone which was disappointing. I tried to get back fit and I ended up tearing it another four times
- every time I tried to get fit I broke down again."So then we thought about not rushing it and strengthening it without doing any training, meaning a long lay-off but finally it's come good. I am only young and hopefully I can get better but I have been playing well recently so hopefully I can carry that onto next season."
One of the main reasons Wednesday have been playing well recently was the form of goalkeeper Iain Turner and Wood hopes the stopper can come over to Hillsborough next season on a more permanent basis from Everton .
"Iain is a great keeper," Wood added. "Hopefully we can keep hold of him next season. We are eleven unbeaten and he has been involved in every one of those games, he's a great lad too and I hope that we can see him return to the club in the summer.
"You look at Scott Carson last season: a good goalkeeper can make your season and you need a good last line of defence. You look at the big clubs and Manchester United have got Edwin Van Der Sar, Chelsea have got Petr Cech. When you have a good goalie, in instils confidence and that's what you need in a good team."
