Wood gets his wish

Sheffield Wednesday can finally put the ongoing Richard Wood transfer saga behind them as the defender has completed a move to Coca Cola Championship rivals Coventry City.

Coventry first declared an interest in the centre-back last season but Wednesday held firm in the hope that they could tie Wood down to a longer contract. The Owls offered Wood a new deal that would have apparently made him the best paid player in his position at the club but this offer was turned down, leaving the club with little option but to invite offers for the player who would otherwise have been able on a free come next summer.

Coventry currently lie one place below Wednesday in the Championship table due to an inferior goal difference and they face Crystal Palace at home on Saturday with Wood available and in contention to make his debut

With the transfer window currently closed Wood has joined the Sky Blues on an initial loan deal with a deal said to be in place to make the move a permanent one for an undisclosed sum in January.

The departure of Wood should give Owls boss Brian Laws some room for manoeuvre in the loan market and he would like to bring in a couple of players before the loan transfer deadline next Thursday with a striker high on his list of priorities.
