The Wales U-21 winger has not even started ten games for The Owls since his deadline day 2003 transfer from Birmingham after suffering a career-threatening knee injury.
But Chris Turner obviously knows he has lots to give and signed him up to a month-to-month deal to prove his fitness and fight for a place in his new-look side.
Smith was at Hillsborough last season and Brunt arrived towards the end of the campaign to give Wednesday real options down the left, but Evans, who has been at the club longer than both flankers thinks the competition will be good for him.
He told Footymad: "We have some competition in my position at the moment with Chris and Paul so it will be hard to break in to the team again but in all honesty that can only be good for you and as long as I do my best and impress the manager, I will take any chance given to me."
Many supporters may have forgot about the former Birmingham City man and his direct approach which will undoubtedly boost Wednesday's squad when he is fit again, but he believes he has a point to prove.
Evans added: "I don’t think the fans have really seen the real me yet. I started a few games last season and I thought I did quite well and I just have to get back to that form really and show the supporters my true potential."
The 21-year-old though still cheers The Owls on despite admitting it has been hard watching from the sidelines.
He said: "It has been frustrating to say the least watching the lads from the sidelines this season. I love to watch the boys and cheer them on seeing them do well, just gets a bit frustrating that you are not out there yourself but from what I have seen so far, I think we are going to have a good season."
