Nothing of note yet at Hillsborough as deadline approaches
The 2019 January transfer window closes in England on Thursday 31st January at 11pm and so far it has been a very quiet double-glazed window for Sheffield Wednesday. While it is hardly surprising that the cash-strapped Owls haven't brought anyone in this month, it is intriguing that there haven't been any significant departures.
Having endured a transfer embargo during last summer it has been reported that the Owls could be heading the same way at the end of this season should they not show significant improvements in relation to the league's profit and sustainability rules. With this in mind the prospect of a significant player sale has been mooted among fans forums, however, despite some rumours there has been little in the way of any concrete offers.
At the start of the window Adam Reach was linked with some Premier League clubs with an 8-figure sum being talked of but as yet nothing has surfaced. Another key asset, Fernando Forestieri, returned from a month out injured in the F.A. Cup defeat at Chelsea on Sunday and rumours about a potential move have since resurfaced. There have been plenty of rumours linking the diminutive forward with moves over the past couple of years but incoming manager Steve Bruce has previously spoken of his admiration for Forestieri and will be keen to keep hold of his best players.
A less lucrative but perhaps more likely move could see Sam Winnall leave on a short-term deal. Some media reports suggest the striker could be available on loan and having looked a little rusty on his recent return from long-term injury this could be a possibility as he is currently behind the likes of Fletcher, Joao, Forestieri and Nuhiu in the pecking order.
