The loan transfer window has opened today and Sheffield Wednesday have wasted no time in a bid to improve their squad by signing young Sunderland striker Connor Wickham on an initial 1-month loan deal.
The 19-year old has been limited mainly to substitute appearances since joining Sunderland in 2011 but is still highly regarded by the Black Cats who see him as one for the future having paid over £8M to Ipswich to sign him.
Wickham came through the ranks at Ipswich Town and made his full debut for them just a few days after his 16th birthday. He scored 15 times in 72 games for Town and was rewarded with the Football League’s Young Player of the Year award in 2011.
Connor has featured for England throughout all of the youth ranks up to and including the Under 21’s and he is in contention to make his Owls debut against Derby County at Hillsborough on Saturday.
