The Irish Under-21 captain has been an important member of the squad this season and is now making his presence felt in the middle of the park.
Following wins against Stockport, Hartlepool and Bristol City, a massive obstacle stands in the way of Wednesday making it four from four in the visit of Hull City next week.
Whelan is hoping that The Owls continue winning and states that the players have more self confidence than ever before.
He exclusivly told Footymad: "In the last three league games, we have turned our league season around somewhat and we are now looking to win the Hull game but we can’t get carried away with this run, it’s only three games at the end of the day.
"We have taken every game as it comes and the Hull game s a big game, although the three we have just won were as well. Hull are a good team and they are up there with us so it will be a hard game but we will give our all.
"We are playing like a new team at the moment, the gaffer’s brought in a lot of conficece and we believe in ourselves more and believe that we can win every game as we are not scared of any other teams. But I think even in the games we have lost under Paul Sturrock, we have shown lots of quality."
This is Whelan's first-ever season at first-team level though and he is relishing the chance to show people his full potential, and is happy with the way things have panned out so far for himself personally.
He added: "I have never had a full season in the league, even when I was at Manchester City. I was playing in the reserves there but I am getting used now to playing every week and hopefully the lads around me will help me along with my game and perhaps likewise but so far this season things have gone ok for me."
