Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich played out a 0-0 draw at Hillsborough on Saturday thanks largely to the performance of Kieran Westwood in the Wednesday goal. The Owls stopper made an uncharacteristic error in the home defeat to Watford last weekend but has generally been one of the Owls top performers this season and he showed his international class against the Canaries.
Stuart Gray brought in Claude Dielna for the suspended Joe Mattock at left-back with Jeremy Helan playing wide midfield. There was still no place for Royston Drenthe in the starting 11 and new loan signing Gary Taylor-Fletcher was also on the bench.
The Owls started brightly and should really have taken the lead when May headed Dielna's cross wide following a good move down the left.
Westwood then denied Grabban at the other end in a sign of what was to follow in the second half.
Nuhiu and Lee snatched at half-chances before the break and although all sqaure was probably fair at that stage Wednesday will have been encouraged by a more positive display at this stage.
The second half was a little slow to get going and Gray tried to change things round by making a double substitution, bringing on Taylor-Fletcher and Drenthe in place of Nuhiu and Maguire. Maguire had already been booked which might have explained why he was taken off but generally both decisions were somewhat surprising and only served to give the visitors more of a grasp on the game as Wednesday struggled to impose themselves from this point onwards.
With Norwich in the ascendancy Westwood took centre stage to preserve the point, denying Cameron Jerome twice and Nathan Redmond with top class saves that left the visitors looking dumbfounded.
Martin glanced a headed chance wide from a corner while at the other end Palmer fired into the side netting following good build up play from Drenthe & May and Helan went close to winning a penalty when the referee adjudged a foul on him to have taken place just outside the area.
Given the chances created Wednesday will probably be happy with a point but while Westwood, Lees and co continue to perform well at the back the struggle to find wins at home continues and they have now gone 3 games without scoring a goal.
