Sheffield Wednesday's preparations for their mouth-watering opening weekend Championship encounter with Aston Villa continued with Saturday's fixture at League One side Chesterfield.
On a muggy afternoon in North Derbyshire Carlos Carvalhal fielded a strong first half line-up and the visitors impressed with some slick passing moves. Wednesday were rewarded for their enterprising play with 2 goals in the first half-hour. First a sweeping move resulted in Kieran Lee guiding home Jack Hunt's low cross and then Fernando Forestieri placed a neat finish past the home goalkeeper as Wednesday's incisive midfield passing broke through the Spireites defence.
Having swapped most of the line-up at half-time in the first friendly at Alfreton in midweek 10 of the starting 11 were given 60 minutes to build up their match fitness this time out.
The raft of changes on the hour mark which saw the introduction of a mix of first team players and youngsters and from then on there was a lack of flow to the game and it petered out to the 2-0 result.
Wednesday's squad seemingly came through the game unscathed in terms of injuries and they now move on to the marquee game of the pre-season schedule against Benfica at Hillsborough in midweek before they travel to Portugal for warm weather training.
