Sheffield Wednesday’s intent to make progress in 2015/16 seems to have been picked up with some of the major bookmakers as the Owls are at the shortest price to gain promotion to the Premier League since they returned to Championship in 2012.
The Owls are generally priced at around 16/1 in the current league winners market, which has them at joint 7th favourite – hardly a reflection on last seasons 13th place finish.
Dejphon Chansiri spent around £30M in purchasing the club from outgoing chairman Milan Mandaric earlier in the year and stated his desire to lead the club to the Premier League by 2017 – the year of Wednesday’s 150th anniversary.
The prospect of imminent investment has seemingly had an impact on the early odds for promotion, time will tell if this intent is backed up with the addition of some quality signings over the summer.
Hull, Middlesbrough and Derby are among the early favourites for promotion with the Owls local rivals Rotherham seen as the biggest outsiders.
