Club takes job retention steps
On Tuesday 31st March Sheffield Wednesday released a statement via the club website, www.swfc.co.uk in relation to updated action regarding the COVID-19 virus.
As many clubs have started to do, as of April 1st, significant numbers of non-playing staff at Sheffield Wednesday will be furloughed in line with the Government Job Retention Scheme. The initiative guarantees furloughed employees 80% of their income up to £2,500 per month but the Owls owner Dejphon Chansiri has pledged to ensure that all employees at this level will continue to receive their full pay.
The stadium and training ground are on lock-down and talks between clubs and bodies such as the EFL and PFA are ongoing in order to try and reach satisfactory outcomes in relation to player salaries and the prospects for completing the season. As things stand no football will be played until at least May 1st and this could well be extended during these challenging times.
