Boro Vs Owls: team news & preview

Sheffield Wednesday suffered their first defeat under new manager Garry Monk in the League Cup on Tuesday but they will be working to maintain their improved league form under him when they travel to Middlesbrough on Saturday.

The Owls had suffered 3 Championship defeats in 4 games prior to the former Middlsbrough managers arrival but they have picked up 4 points from 2 games since his tenure began during the recent international break.

Wednesday are likely to be without Tom Lees who has yet to recover from a hamstring injury and fellow centre-back David Bates is also out injured. Forward Fernando Forestieri is halfway through his 6-match suspension.

Monk made 8 changes for the League Cup clash with Everton in midweek and it is likely that the team will revert back to something similar to the side the drew with Fulham last Saturday with the likes of Westwood, Palmer, Borner, Bannan, Harris and Fletcher all in contention to return.

Middlesbrough remain without full-back George Friend and striker Rudy Gestede due to injuries but experienced midfielder Jonny Howson could return to the squad following a hernia lay off.

Boro were beaten 1-0 at Cardiff last weekend but they have taken 7 points from their last 3 home matches.

Wednesday lost 2-1 to Middlesbrough at Hillsborough last October but did enjoy a 1-0 win at the Riverside Stadium when the two sides last faced each other on Boxing Day last year.
