Key areas strengthened
Sheffield Wednesday managed to bring in three new faces on transfer deadline day, adding depth to their defensive, midfield and attacking options.
As was expected, Massimo Luongo joined the Owls in what is rumoured to be a bargain £1M move from QPR and has signed a 3-year deal at Hillsborough. The Australian international has been a key figure in the QPR midfield in recent seasons and will be missed by fans of the London club.
Luongo was followed by Jacob Murphy. The Newcastle winger joins on a season-long loan having spent the second half of last season on loan at West Bromwich Albion. The 24-year-old began his career with Norwich City and an impressive breakthrough season in the Championship in 2016-17 earned him a move to the Toon.
The third player to make the move to Hillsborough on Thursday was Scottish centre-back David Bates. The 22-year-old joined German side SV Hamburg on a 4-year contract last summer having spent the previous year at Glasgow Rangers. The 6'4" defender has 4 senior caps for Scotland.
