Weather to play part in Sharp deal?

Torrential rain on Sunday and Monday jeopardised most of the Sheffield and South Yorkshire area and left The Owls' home without power this morning.

The River Don burst its banks yesterday and hundreds of commuters had to wade through four feet of water around the Penistone Road area just to get home last night.

The shocking conditions could also put Wednesday further behind in the race to sign Scunthorpe United's Billy Sharp - who was due at Hillsborough yesterday for talks after The Iron agreed a fee with Wednesday.

Now it looks to be a straight race between Wednesday, Wolves, Norwich and Sheffield United for the player's signature after all having bids accepted by the Glanford Park club although Owls boss Brian Laws has made it clear that he wants to sign the striker - especially following Steve MacLean's departure to Cardiff.
