"I had a good rapport with the fans when I played there and I still live in the city and go down and watch.
"I know the bulk of the squad, especially the younger ones who I had in the reserves for a year when I was there. I know their strengths and weaknesses and know what they want.
"Wednesday have got problems but they are a massive club and there will be a lot of interest in the job.
"It will be a three to four-year job to turn it around and it will need some sort of clear-out right through the club.
"They have not got a lot of money but they need to get some confidence and start playing attractive football which the fans want to see."
