Sheffield Wednesday’s 2nd pre-season friendly of the summer ended in victory this afternoon as the Owls ran out 3-0 winners at Worksop Town.
Having returned from their training camp in Austria Gary Megson’s side put in a decent performance that enabled them to ease to a 2-0 half-time lead at Sandy Lane, before adding a third midway through the second half.
Wednesday took the lead with just over 10 minutes on the clock as Lewis Buxton headed in at the back post from a corner. The advantage was doubled 10 minutes later when Gary Madine fired in a fine strike from distance. Mark Beevers added a third with another headed goal from a corner and the Owls were comfortable throughout. The League One side created plenty of chances and should have really won by a wider margin but the workout and the number of opportunities create should encourage Gary Megson.
Lewis Buxton got a useful 70 minutes under his belt having missed the tour of Austria and new faces David Prutton, Jose Semedo and Julian Bennett will be getting more familiar with the playing styles of their new team mates.
Wednesday’s pre-season schedule continues with a short trip to face Rotherham at the Don Valley Stadium on Tuesday evening.
