Fans on the kop were mixed with their opinions of the Bates-Dave Allen saga although as soon as Brentford opened the scoring, cries of ‘Allen out’ rang around Hillsborough.
To want Allen out totally is unfair though. Without him, Wednesday would without question be in administration right about now although to have the best interests of the club at hand, both Allen and Bates must work together.
Both can bring fresh ideas to the table but Turner acknowledges that off-the-field shenanigans have not helped Wednesday’s current cause.
He said: “The football club at the moment is going thorough a strange time and there are a lot of contracts expiring at the end of the season so there is a grey area there.
“I read in the papers every day that I am leaving as soon as Ken Bates takes over, I spoke to the players though and told them that I am in the same boat as them – if Bates comes in here, I’m leaving, so I am coming in for the remainder of the season with a smile on my face and the players should do the same.
“When we come to the end of the season and decisions have to be made, they’ll be made, and I just want the players to have a smile on their face despite what the future holds.”
But despite some horrific performances recently, the Owls boss admits that some of the players who have contributed towards some awful showings will be offered deals to stay at Hillsborough.
He continued: “Some of the players here will be given contracts and hopefully we can put out a side where people can say that they want to watch them play.
“I want to get to the finishing line of the season and get all the boardroom problems sorted out and try to continue to try to get this club back where it belongs, but at the moment I am more frustrated than the fans are who are watching the team.”
