"At half-time I felt the team were frustrated but I told them they had to go out and be men," said Turner.
"I thought we pressured them and kept them to breakaways. But we missed two or three good chances and you think you're never going to score, so I was elated when we did."
Turner was pleased to see Kuqi score after turning down an approach from first division leaders Portsmouth for the Finnish striker earlier this week.
"He's committed to Sheffield Wednesday and I'm now hoping he can go on a little run," said the Owls boss.
