Turner backs Tidman

Tidman, back after being injured against Blackpool, could have done better in a goalmouth scramble leading up towards Mickey Evans’ seventh minute opener – his second high-profile calamity in the space of a week. But despite not being on the top of many Wednesdayite’s Christmas card lists after a mixed first season at Hillsborough, the former Stockport custodian kept The Owls in the game and made several good saves.
When asked about Tidman’s error of judgement, Turner said: “Are you joking? Ola’s handling tonight was excellent. I think without Ola tonight we could have conceded more goals.”
Goals from Evans and Graham Coughlan gave the Home Park club their second impressive win over The Owls this season, following October’s 3-1 triumph at Hillsborough.
Wednesday were simply not at the races in the first half, and despite a spirited showing in the second half, two identical goals and bad defending were their undoing.
Turner though praised his under-strength team for making a game of it and not losing spirit, he told BBC Radio Sheffield: “We have got eleven fit professional players at the club. We lost Kevin Pressman and Steve Haslam in the last few days, and when we conceded after eight minutes you think its going to be one of those nights where we can capitulate and concede a lot of goals but you have to give the players credit as in the second half we caused them quite a few problems.”
