The ongoing transfer speculation regarding the future of Owls striker Marcus Tudgay has taken a definitive turn today as the club have announced that he has signed a new four year deal.
The improved contract sees Marcus commit to the club up to 2013 and will come as a major boost to the Owls with the new season fast approaching.
Speculation had been rife in recent weeks that Tudgay could be on his way out of Hillsborough, mainly as a result of interest from Premier League newcomers Burnley and comments from the player’s agent.
Burnley had hoped to lure Tudgay away, believing that their bid of less than £2M was fair considering that he only had one more season to run on his contract. Wednesday were adamant that this offer completely undervalued Tudgay’s worth and now that he has signed a new contract it would take considerably more for Wednesday to even consider any future offers for their top scorer.
Hopes are high around Hillsborough that Wednesday can build on last seasons mid-table finish and with Tudgay committing to a new deal, 4 new signings and key players such as Simek, Sodje and Esajas hoping to put their injury problems of last season behind them there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic at this stage.
