Stoke, who have been excellent at home this season and won their last seven games at the Britannia, came undone thanks to goals from Steve MacLean and Deon Burton.
Former Scunthorpe United manager Laws even thinks the result at Stoke is the best while he has been in charge at Hillsborough.
He said: "This is probably as good as it has been so far. Stoke are a very tough, well-organised team, who are very hard to break down, so to create as many chances as we did is a credit to the players.
"The players fancy themselves to win every game, and they are gaining confidence with every match. Twelve months ago, they might have feared coming here, but they did not today, which suggests they are going in the right direction."
Madjid Bougherra was one of seven Owls players booked in a hot-tempered encounter and now he will miss the FA Cup game with Manchester City as that caution was his fifth of the season and will face a one-match ban.
