The Owls boss told his players off for trying to play too much football when they were 2-0 up before wrapping the game up with Lewis McMahon's winner.
Wednesday were 2-0 up thanks to goals from Adam Proudlock and Jon-Paul McGovern and instead of Sturrock's men being professional and seeing the game out, the boss thought they were playing like they were at Swindon before going on to lose that particular game.
One example was from Lee Bullen, who for the second time this season kicked the ball away to be booked - he will now be fined and suspended.
Sturrock said: "Too many players are not listening to what we are trying to preach.
"At the moment we haven't got the personnel to ensure that if they don't do it there are others to come in."
Even with Jon Shaw being paid off by the club, it does not bring in any immediate funds in to strengthen the squad.
The feeling is though after a month and a half is that the stubborn Sturrock is definitely the man for the job, and when he is happy with the performances, Wednesday will reap the rewards.
