The Owls dropped back to fourth bottom following the defeat and makes Saturday's clash at home to Derby vital if the club are to escape the relegation zone.
An own-goal from Glenn Whelan and a Dave Kitson strike put The Royals on top but moments before both goals were put in by the home side, Wednesday had good chances to score themselves.
Sturrock said afterwards: "I thought we played better than we had on Saturday (against Norwich) when we got three points, but if somebody had told me in advance that we would get three points from these two games I would have bitten their hands off.
"Reading are a good side, brimming with confidence and better teams than us will come here and lose."
Meanwhile Sturrock's oppisite number Steve Coppell said: "Credit to them, they came to have a go and the game was a lot more open than we have had recently."
