It is reported that The Owls offered released Manchester City defender Bischoff a pay-as-you-play deal because of his long record of injuries but his agent was looking for a longer contract for the Dane.
It is a shame that this seems to be the case as Bischoff was excellent at Hillsborough although his spell was cut short by injury.
But as one door closes another one opens and defender Bougherra, of French club Guengnon could be the man to step in - although a £300,000 bid will have to be made.
Bougherra was on loan at Crewe last season and carried their defence towards the end of the season - and can even play in midfield because he is technically sound.
Meanwhile Paul Sturrock has admitted that the club are interested in monitoring the progress of Kevin McNaughton of Aberdeen after the Owls boss said he is one of the players on the club's prospective transfer list.
