The Owls boss was furious after a late strike from Steve Howard gave The Rams the victory despite being under the cosh and down to ten men for most of the second half.
Wednesday seem to go downhill once Chris Brunt had opened the scoring and the defending at the other end was calamitous to say the least.
Sturrock said: "I am absolutely gut-wrenched for the fans, they must all be as sick as parrots.
"There is no excuse for the shambolic defending in the last 10 minutes. We had four different opportunities to clear the first goal. The second was just unbelievable.
"After going a goal up and have Derby down to 10 men, we took 10 yards back to hold on to what we had got instead of going 10 paces forward to win it."
Meanwhile, Lloyd Sam has gone back to Charlton Athletic after a month on loan at Hillsborough.
