A wonderful 1-0 win over Norwich City on Saturday was followed up by another clean sheet in the 2-0 victory at Brighton yesterday - a result which made The Owls mathematically safe with two games to go.
But Wednesday's win resulted in disappointment for Brighton, Crewe and Millwall who now can not catch The Owls whatever their results between now and the end of the campaign.
An own-goal and a classy Burton O'Brien strike was enough to see Sturrock's men beat Albion while Marcus Tudgay's goal against Norwich two days before put Wednesday in the survival driving seat.
Sturrock admitted: "It's been a traumatic season, a rollercoaster, with injuries and players coming and going, but the last five or six weeks we have finally adapted to this league.
"I think we have done a better job this season than we did last season. I'm proud of them all.
"We can grow from this, it will make us stronger, but we have to make sure we are not in a transitional period at the beginning of next season."
