Sturrock has been searching night and day in a bid to get experienced cover for the difficult trip to Cardiff on Saturday but has so far failed in his quest.
The Owls boss is not interested in bringing in youngsters with limited first-team appearances but more of a player who has been there and done it - although that is proving difficult.
He told the official Wednesday website: "I can assure every fan that I am in spending mode. But I can't get the beast I am looking for.
"The chairman's money will be well spent if the criteria of player we need is available. We are working night and day to bring someone in, hopefully for Saturday."
Meanwhile Chris Brunt played an hour of the game for Northern Ireland against Estonia last night as Lawrie Sanchez's team won 1-0.
