Sheffield Wednesday has moved to try and dip into the huge student market within the city by introducing money saving match tickets for forthcoming home games.
An announcement on the official club website on Thursday stated that "students of all ages will be able to book their seat for games at Hillsborough with tickets priced at £10, £5 and £2.50 for all valid NUS card holders. "
Students also have the opportunity to purchase tickets in the city as these tickets are available from the University of Sheffield's student union on Western Bank.
The prices will apply to all remaining home games for the current season from the Crystal Palace match onwards. With home games against the likes of highflying Wolves and Reading still to come, these prices represent great value and offer huge savings on normal match-day tickets.
Whilst it is good to see that the club are taking measures to attract more support to the stadium by continuing to introduce affordable prices some will feel that they are being short changed as a result of this.
For instance, there will doubtless be a fair few student Owls fans that purchased adult-priced season tickets on the Kop at the start of the season at a cost of over £360 as there were no student tickets available. Having already purchased their tickets they are missing out on these offers despite pledging their support for the club at the start of the season.
The club are set to review match-day and season ticket prices for students for next season but this will be of no benefit to students who are adult season ticket holders this season and are currently in their final year of study and so will not be eligible next season.
