Sheffield Wednesday reserves won 4-2 at Walsall on Tuesday evening with two strikers making a claim for a first team start.
Francis Jeffers got 70 minutes under his belt and scored a goal in the win. Jeffers, who has made two brief substitute appearances for the first team in the last two games after months on the sidelines, could be pushing for a start at the Valley on Saturday or at least a more significant appearance from the bench.
Leon Clarke also hit a brace of goals, taking his tally to four in the last three reserve games but he has struggled to transfer this form when given a chance in the in the Championship so far this season and indeed throughout most of his time at Hillsborough.
Marcus Tudgay is sure to be first choice as striker against Charlton but with Akpo Sodje still sidelined through injury and Deon Burton-who has yet to score this season despite being a regular starter in most games-struggling for form and sharpness the other place could still be up for grabs should Wednesday choose to field their usual 4-4-2 formation.
Wide-man Wade Small also stepped up his fitness in the Walsall game and was heavily involved in many of the Owls productive attacking moves. Although Jermaine Johnson is almost certain to start on Saturday the return of Small could put pressure on Etienne Esajas, who wasn't at his best against Ipswich last weekend.
