Sodje Suffers Setback as Owls injury problems mount

In-form striker Akpo Sodje is the latest Wednesday player to have to spend time on the treatment table. Akpo, who has played a key role in the Owls recent revival having scored five times in the last seven games, picked up an ankle injury in Tuesday nights draw at Southampton and limped out of the game after less than thirty minutes.

Although it is thought the injury is not a serious one the full extent is yet to be determined and it is likely that he will be unavailable for Saturday's home league fixture against Coventry City.

The game is also likely to come too soon for recovering forward Deon Burton and so the out form Marcus Tudgay will be the only experienced striker available. Tudgay, who has just three goals to his name this season was dropped to the bench against the Saints in midweek but came on for the injured Sodje and is likely to be recalled on Saturday.

The Owls could opt to partner Tudgay with Wade Small in a 4-4-2 formation or opt to play Small and Jermaine Johnson in wide positions in support of Tudgay as a lone striker. Youngster Luke Boden may also be pushing for a place in the squad.

Whatever formation manager Brian Laws chooses to go with, the Owls may have to adopt a change of tactics. Recent games have seen Wednesday utilising Sodje's physical presence with direct balls to the striker but without him in the side this approach may be futile.
