Soares secures extended stay

Sheffield Wednesday have today been boosted by the news that a deal has been reached to secure the services of Stoke City midfielder Tom Soares until the end of the season.

Soares got off to a slow start at Hillsborough having initially been signed on a one-month deal in November by Brian Laws. That contract was then extended and he has been an ever-present under Alan Irvine, scoring his first goal for the Owls in last weeks win at Blackpool.

His last deal came to an end after Saturday’s home win over Peterborough but Irvine has now expressed his delight at being able to hold onto a player who has impressed him in his short time with the Owls so far and Soares should now be in line to keep his place in the side for Wednesday evening’s clash at Scunthorpe.
