Sheffield Wednesday have lost their appeal against the red card shown to Jimmy Smith on Saturday and as the F.A deemed the appeal to be a frivolous one they have added a further match to the ban.
This means that the Chelsea loanee will now be unavailable for the next four games against Plymouth, Crystal Palace, Doncaster and Derby.
Smith was shown a straight red card in the second half at Birmingham City for leading with the elbow in a challenge and some replay angles of the incident did suggest that he had his eye on his opponent rather than on the ball when the challenge was made.
Despite not being a regular in the side his absence will be a blow to the team as they are currently struggling with injuries to key players.
