The Owls dominated the game against relegated Stockport on Saturday but they did not get the rub of the green although the point gained moved Wednesday up two places in the league after Brentford, Hartlepool and Bournemouth all lost.
Bullen admits that some of the players were a little low at the final whistle but the mood changed as soon as they saw how other results had gone for them.
He told Footymad: "That was one of the most one-sided games that you will see all season. We dominated the game but in true Wednesday fashion you would think that we would have lost a goal – the positives we can take from the game though are that we kept a clean sheet and all the teams around us lost so we moved back up to fifth place and back into the play-offs.
"It was a massive chance what we let slip by but you can’t fault our effort, we are not really getting the breaks in front of goal at the moment and perhaps we need a defender to slip on his backside because we are having a bad run at the moment. But it’s all about us now and two wins will get us there."
Usually when Wednesday win, all their opponents do as well so this weekend was a refreshing change and Paul Sturrock's men are back in the play-off picture following last Friday's shocker at Hartlepool.
Bullen added: "What normally happens is we win and everyone else around us wins or visa versa – we got a point but it wasn’t a poor performance as we gave everything and we needed a bit of composure in the box which would have made the difference between one point and three.
"We had a few players walk off and perhaps a few of them were a little dejected but when we got to the dressing room we heard how the other results had gone and that gave us a bit of a lift and we got our first clean sheet in about six or seven games so from the defensive point of view that has to be judged as a positive.
"The frustration has to be there with the crowd who were there though but we are still in there and we are in the driving seat and at the beginning of the season if you knew that you would have been fifth in the league with two games to go you would have taken it."
