The club skipper has been a mainstay under Brian Laws after taking his opportunity when Coughlan was unavailable and has forged a decent partnership with Madjid Bougherra.
But it is Coughlan who is the unlucky man at the moment but Bullen is glad that his performances are keeping him in the team.
He told Footymad: "It's great for me at the moment playing every week and my performances are a lot more consistent because I am playing in the one position.
"I have played here, there and everywhere for the club and that gives you a bit of inconsistency - you can play well one week and the week after you couldn't get a game in a Sunday league team!
"It's great to be in but obviously the fact that I am in that means that others are going to be disappointed, like Graham for example, he is going through now what I was going through earlier in the season.
"But as a player sometimes you are given opportunities and you have to grab them. Hopefully the manager thinks I have done ok."
