Sheffield Wednesday have made their fourth signing of the summer by swooping for former Charlton Athletic midfielder Jose Semedo.
The Portuguese player was available on a free transfer having rejected the offer of a new deal with the Owls League One rivals and he has signed a three-year deal at Hillsborough. The 26-year-old former Portugal Under 21 international is noted for being a tough-tackling defensive midfielder who reads the game well and has an abundance of energy.
Many Charlton fans will be sorry to have lost the player to a rival League One club as he was a very popular player for the Londoner’s. Having joined them from Sporting Lisbon in 2007 Semedo made more than 150 appearances for the club and won their Player of the Year award for last season by some distance.
Semedo is Gary Megson’s 4th addition to his squad so far this summer, joining fellow midfielder David Prutton and defenders Rob Jones and Julian Bennett. More new faces are expected to follow as the Owls step up their pre-season schedule ahead of what they hope will be a much better campaign than the previous one.
