Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed the signing of Barnsley FC striker Sam Winnall. The forward moves to Hillsborough for an undisclosed fee, rumoured to be in the region of £500,000 – a snip in today’s market.
Winnall has signed a 3-and-a-half year deal at Hillsborough and could make his Owls debut in the Yorkshire derby against Huddersfield on Saturday.
The 25-year-old has been a prolific goalscorer throughout the Football League. He was top scorer in League 2 in 2013-14, helping Scunthorpe to promotion that season. In the summer of 2014 he joined Barnsley and scored over 20 goals last season in League 1 as the Tykes won promotion to the Championship.
The Wolves academy product has continued his fine form this season, bagging 11 goals so far and he was the Championship player of the month in December.
