Rocky confident of victory - exclusive

A JP McGovern strike gave Paul Sturrock’s men a vital 1-0 lead going into the clash at Griffin Park and now a solid, professional performance should see Wednesday get to the Millennium Stadium to play either Hartlepool or Tranmere.

Wednesday’s performances on the road this season have usually been much better than their Hillsborough showings and a draw in west London will see them through.

Rocastle told Footymad: “It was a good team performance on Thursday and I think we deserved the win and I thought the boys battled well together. To be fair I thought Rankin was going to be sent off but we can’t think about that – we just have to go down there and carry on with the rest of the job.”

The former
Chelsea midfielder remembers the last time Wednesday played Brentford at their place but can take heart from the clash, despite Wednesday throwing away a two-goal lead.

He added: “We went there and were 3-1 up last time but we had a bit of a lack of concentration at the end so we will have to work hard so that doesn’t happen again but we have to be tight as a unit although everyone’s up for the game.

“Paul says that the pressure is off us a bit following Thursday night – we can go down there and with them being the home team, they will bring the game to us. We’re confident though. We know that we have to go there and win so that we can get to
Cardiff and make sure that this club gets promoted.”

On Wednesday’s supporters, he said: “Wednesday’s fans have always been terrific, they are every single week and on Thursday it was a continuation of what they have been like since I have been at the club since February.”
