The former Liverpool winger Partridge only made a handful of appearances for The Owls in a disappointing spell last season - scoring one goal against Stockport County in the League Cup.
He signed an initial six-month deal at the start of the campaign but hardly figured - mainly because of the form of fellow loanee Chris Eagles.
But in December when Eagles' deal expired, he returned to Manchester United to then get loaned to Premiership-bound Watford.
It was widely expected that Paul Sturrock would have kept Eagles at the club and released Partridge but the Irishman stayed but his luck did not change.
Now Chester's chairman Stephen Vaughan has admitted talking to Partridge's agent in a bid to sign up the player.
Meanwhile Lunt, impressive in over 400 appearances for Crewe has been offered a new contract at Gresty Road but he is being looked at by a number of championship clubs.
So far his agent is reportedly talking to not only The Owls but also Southampton, Stoke City, Leicester City and Wolves.
