PS on Owls win & duo join

Rotherham’s Deon Burton and Derby’s Marcus Tudgay are the first players in during the transfer window.

Wednesday have paid around £110,000 for Burton and got Tudgay on a one-month loan deal with a view to a full-time switch.

Wednesday failed to score in seven games before yesterday’s trip to Turf Moor but Manchester United loanee Chris Eagles said farewell to the club with a goal after five minutes and Graham Coughlan made it an all-important second on the hour.

The reported arrivals of Burton and Tudgay should give The Owls a bit of cover in the forward department until Steve MacLean, Drew Talbot and David Graham return to fitness – but yesterday’s result will mean nothing if Alex are not beaten tomorrow.

Sturrock said of the win: “For an hour I thought we were excellent, did all the right things but when you're in the position in the league that we are, you get very apprehensive as the game unwinds and we finished up and it was like the Alamo the last 10 or 15 minutes but they stuck their head in, cleared their lines and worked their tails off.

"I'm very pleased because we are a very young side - the pressure of not scoring goals has been on our heads and I'm glad we've got that out of the way and we soldier on to Crewe."
