Sheffield Wednesday have made their first move of the summer transfer window by completing the signing of free agent George Boyd.
The experienced wide midfielder had been offered a new one-year deal by Premier League club Burnley following the expiry of his last deal at Turf Moor but Wednesday are reported to have given him the added security of a two-year deal.
The 31-year-old has played over 500 games to date since making his debut for Stevenage Borough in 2002. He rose to prominence at Peterborough United where he spent 6 years from 2007 and earned a move to promotion hopefuls Hull City in 2013. Boyd helped the Tigers to promotion that season and completed a permanent move to the KC Stadium that summer.
In the summer of 2014 Boyd joined Burnley. The Lancashire club were relegated from the top flight in 2015 but bounced back at the first attempt and last season the Scotland international featured in more than 30 games for the club as they retained their top flight status.
Boyd has played twice for Scotland and is a versatile player capable of playing in a variety of attacking roles across the midfield. He is renowned for having a high work rate for a wide midfielder and has the ability to provide goals and assists consistently at this level.
