Sheffield Wednesday have today parted company with midfielder Darren Potter by mutual consent according to the clubs official website, www.swfc.co.uk
The former Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder is now free to find another club as Gary Megson looks to freshen up his Owls squad in a bid to make them League One contenders following a disappointing 2010/11 campaign.
Potter, who made just over 100 appearances for Wednesday, moved to Hillsborough on loan in January 2009 and following a successful temporary stint at S6 he was signed on permanent contract.
The former Liverpool man never managed to reproduce the form he showed in his initial loan spell and was heavily criticised for his ineffectiveness in the 2009/10 season, which resulted in relegation from the Championship. Despite the drop down to League One Potter was unable to rediscover his form and he started less than half of last season’s matches. Few will be surprised to see him depart as a change of scenery may help the player get his career back on track while Wednesday will also be looking for a fresh approach in midfield.
