Players on new boss Sturrock - EXCLUSIVE!

The Owls unveiled the former Plymouth manager, recently sacked from Southampton, at a press conference at 11am and he signs a three-year deal.

Kevin Summerfield will be his assistant and straight away, Chris Turner's replacement has signed Hasney Aljofree on a month's loan from Argyle.

The 26-year-old defender was with Sturrock at Dundee United and will be a welcome addition to the squad at a time when defenders seem to be dropping like flies.

Sturrock was sat alongside Dave Allen for the club’s tie with Coventry City at Highfield Road last night and watched on as his new team were beaten 1-0 to crash out of the league cup.

Striker Shaw is sorry to see Turner go and believes he could have been given more time but hopes Sturrock can add some stability to the club.

He told Footymad: “I really feel sorry for Chris Turner and that news came as a shock as the board said that they were going to give him time, he cleared out the players he didn’t want and signed ten new players to replace them and perhaps the squad needed more time to gel but it’s a board decision and we will move on.

“All the lads were working extremely hard and we thought he was playing the right system but it didn’t have time to work, also luck was against us in a few of the games remember but we had to start winning games and obviously we weren’t doing that.”

On Sturrock he added: “Paul is a proven manager at this level and if he can turn us into a side that can win the majority of games or to get a similar amount of points to what
Plymouth did in their promotion season then the fans and players alike will be both happy.

“I have been here for four years since signing on a YT and I have seen four managers and I haven’t really had a settled one but in my opinion the board don’t see that things are going right and have made various changes in the last few years, hopefully Paul can be that man to get some points on the board.”

Bullen meanwhile is convinced that Allen has made the right decision despite not knowing exactly what his countryman will bring to the club at the moment.

He told Footymad: “You can’t have a go at the chairman on his decision; he is bringing in a man who has done everything in this league – he’s been there, seen it and done it. He had a fantastic record with
Plymouth and that is why Mr. Allen is going with him.

“But despite me being Scottish I don’t know much about him to be honest – there is still a lot of disappointment about Chris Turner’s departure but we are very happy that the new manager has been sorted out so quickly so we can look forward towards the Wrexham game.

“I was shocked when I found out about Chris as he was the man who brought me in and I had a good working relationship with him but football is a result based game and the chairman has made a hell of a tough decision and one he felt had to be made sooner rather than later to give Paul the opportunity to get us out of this league.”
