Owls stopper excels on international duty
Sheffield Wednesday’s on-loan Burnley goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell starred yet again for his country on Wednesday evening as Northern Ireland earned a 0-0 draw with Switzerland in a World Cup Qualifying group game in Belfast.
The Owls number one, fresh from saving a penalty in last weeks 4-1 victory over Lithuania, managed to keep out a 32nd minutes penalty from Swiss striker Haris Seferovic on the way to keeping another clean sheet. Switzerland enjoyed around 75% possession throughout the game and had double the amount of shots on goal as their hosts but they could not find a way past Peacock-Farrell. The draw keeps Northern Ireland in touch with Switzerland in Group C. European Champions Italy lead the way in the group but second place offers the chance of World Cup qualification via the play-offs so the point keeps Ian Baraclough’s side in contention.
Aside from penalty shoot-outs, Peacock-Farrell has faced 4 penalties for club and country this season, he has saved 3 of them and the other hit the post with the keeper diving the right way. He is likely to return to action for the Owls in League One this weekend as they make the long trip to Plymouth Argyle.
