The former Bristol City striker was not even on the bench after he admitted to Turner that he would not get through even fifteen minutes of the clash against Walsall.
The Owls boss said: “Lee arrived for the coach feeling ill and deteriorated on the way down.
“We gave him something at the hotel to try to pick him up, I asked him if he was able to start the game and he was honest enough to say he wasn’t up for it but he should be ok for early next week.”
Heckingbottom meanwhile will miss the majority of games in September and perhaps his return to Bradford City after picking up a muscle tear in training last week.
That subsequent injury left him out of contention for the Saddlers trip.
Turner added: “Paul has been playing the last few games with a hip strain which he aggravated on Thursday and failed a fitness test on Saturday morning but we sent him for tests on Monday.”
Those tests came back with the bad news although Guy Branston will be returning for the home clash with Bournemouth this Saturday.
