Owls Vs Bluebirds: Team news

Sheffield Wednesday will host Cardiff at Hillsborough in their final game of the season in front of what is set to be one of the biggest crowds in the football league this campaign.

Wednesday need a win in order to secure a creditable top half finish while Cardiff's need is potentially much greater as they go in search of a point to guarantee a play-off place.

The Owls are set to make enforced changes to the side that started in the 1-1 draw at Bristol City last weekend.

Winger Etienne Esajas was substituted during that game with an ankle injury and is set to be replaced in the starting line up by Jermaine Johnson.

Striker Leon Clarke could also be struggling with a hamstring problem and if he isn't passed fit then Owls player of the season Marcus Tudgay may finally get another opportunity to start in his preferred position up front.

The visitors may recall the experienced Darren Purse to the back four having leaked a few goals of late but they have other big injury concerns.

Not least is the fitness of influential goal-scoring midfielder Joe Ledley who is doubtful with a hamstring injury.

Full-back Kevin McNaughton, midfielders Gavin Rae & Stephen McPhail and strikers Michael Chopra and Jay Bothroyd will also need to prove their fitness are suffering recent knocks.

Wednesday have picked up 4 points from their last two games having lost the previous two and will be hoping to finish with a final day win as they have done for each of the past three seasons.

A couple of weeks ago Cardiff seemed to be certs for the play-offs but one point from the last three games with 11 goals conceded in the process has left them sweating going into this last game.

They have won 5, drawn 12 and lost 5 away games in the league and recorded a comfortable 2-0 home win over the Owls back in December.

In the three games between the two sides at Hillsborough since Wednesday returned to the second tier they have won one each and drawn the other.
