Sheffield Wednesday have today confirmed that their only pre-season friendly on home soil this summer will see them entertain Rangers.
The Glasgow giants will make the trip south on Wednesday 24th July for a 7.45pm kick-off at S6. The Gers, managed by former Scotland international striker Ally McCoist have been through hard times recently, suffering demotion from the SPL to the Scottish Third Division in 2012 due to financial issues.
Despite these problems Rangers are still able to entice players away from SPL sides such is the draw of playing for the club and their magnificent support has remained true to them in the 4th tier of Scottish football.
Rangers romped to the 3rd division title last season, finishing 24 points clear at the top of the table as they bid to make their way through the leagues and return to their rightful place in the top flight.
The two sides last met 15 years ago when Wednesday travelled to Ibrox for Ian Durrant's testimonial. On that occasion an entertaining match ended in a 2-2 draw, the Owls getting pegged back after Italian maestros Paolo Di Canio and Benito Carbone had given them a 2-0 lead.
