18-year-old O’Brien played for Wanderers in their friendly at S6 in the summer but his only first-team action so far this season came in a league cup clash with Yeovil.

The Republic of Ireland youth international is 6ft tall and is set to make his debut against Hull on Wednesday night all going well.

He is currently training with The Owls and has the regular responsibility of captaining The Trotters’ reserve team.

Manager or the month Paul Sturrock said: “Joey will have had four days' training with us by the time of the
Hull game. It will be a big test for him, in a change of environment, for the pace of this League is higher than Premier reserve football.”

Wednesday only have Glenn Whelan fit at the moment and with Lewis McMahon and Chris Marsden out for some considerable time, now was the time to pounce for new blood.

Sturrock
will have a meeting with Marsden next week regarding his injury and the amount of time he will be on the sidelines.

The Owls skipper exclusively revealed to Footymad last week that he could be out for a considerable spell should he need to go under the knife.
